A Brief Look at our Galaxy. The Brantford Galaxy Soccer Club was established in February 2010 with the announcement by the Canadian Soccer League to added professional soccer expansion teams into grassroots soccer communities. The successful bid for the Brantford team was made by Hamilton residents Gerry Crnic and Bosko Borjan. "We're here because we've seen an opportunity for soccer to grow because of the new direction of the CSL," Galaxy managing director Crnic said. "The CSL has very exciting plans for expansion ...We're very happy." Crnic and club president Borjan made the Brantford bid on behalf of a group in Europe. They work quickly to establish a connection with local youth and amateur clubs. European player where select to travel to Canada. This mix of Professional and local talent started the season on May 15th, 2010 with a ceremonial kicked off by famous Hockey dad Walter Gretzky. The Galaxy went on to a benchmark season by winning the CSL Championship on October 31st defeating fellow CSL new comers Hamilton Croatia 3-0. In 2011 the Galaxy has broke new ground with the development of a youth pyramid of teams including affiliations with Brantford Galaxy youth S.C., formerly Brantford Inter-City S.C. and Brant County Recreational Soccer for little people ages 4-7. "Unlike most other CSL clubs, Brantford truly had a pyramid of play," Crnic said. Kids have opportunities all the way from tots to professional. "There's now an opportunity for good local players to get contracts in Europe." In 2011 the Galaxy has also established a women's team. The Lady Galaxy will compete in the Ontario Women's Soccer League with the prospect off a CSL Women's league in 2012. |
